Bitcoin is Live

Bitcoin is experiencing a remarkable renaissance. Over the past few years, there’s been a surge of initiatives with a new wave of builders reinvigorating the Bitcoin ecosystem on all fronts from infra to applications. Today, Symbiotic is proud to announce a significant milestone: we're taking the first steps to extend shared security beyond Ethereum to include Bitcoin.Bitcoin is the gold standard in crypto with tremendous economic security, but it has been historically isolated from the wider interoperability landscape due to its conservative approach to innovation. Symbiotic’s network-agnostic shared security framework bridges the gap between Bitcoin's robust security and the flexibility needed for modern decentralized applications.

We’re rolling out various ERC-20 implementations of Bitcoin to support decentralization and security for Bitcoin-aligned protocols. This is a first push, and more assets are to come.

In addition to enabling new collateral, we’re also excited to introduce our first cohort of Bitcoin builders using Symbiotic:

  • Swell - Swell L2, the restaking yield layer for Ethereum, will leverage assets restaked through Symbiotic including BTC to secure critical infrastructure services for the rollup. 
  • Radius - Radius is leveraging Symbiotic shared security for rollups using their blockspace network to help rollups capture MEV profits with user protection.
  • Polyhedra - Polyhedra will use Symbiotic to secure their trustless cross-chain Bitcoin token swap, facilitating interoperability between Bitcoin, Ethereum and other ecosystems.
  • Lombard - Lombard will integrate with Symbiotic by economically securing their native Bitcoin bridge and making the yield-bearing $LBTC available to Symbiotic’s ecosystem.
  • Hemi - Hemi will leverage Swell BTC's LRT Vault on Symbiotic to source economic security for their Bitcoin asset tunneling system.
  • Stroom - Stroom is working with Symbiotic to expand the utility of stBTC as a (re)staking asset across multiple networks, using Symbiotic’s cryptoeconomic security to secure the Stroom Network.
  • dlcBTC - dlcBTC is integrating Symbiotic's restaking to secure its Attestor Network to enable Bitcoin holders to participate in DeFi and secure Proof-of-Stake chains without relying on bridges or custodians.
  • pumpBTC - PumpBTC is using Symbiotic to secure their guardian network serving as a coordination and computation layer on top of Symbiotic, backed by pumpBTC and other restaked assets.
